Are these countertops concrete?
No, they're not concrete. In fact, Shirestone is twice as hard as concrete and because the pour is only one-half inch thick, it's relatively lightweight when compared to concrete or granite tops. We don't use water as a liquid so Shirestone doesn't have the same cracking characteristics as concrete, but rather a beautiful stone finish. Back to top

What are they made of?
SHIRESTONE is a natural stone that has been pulverized, powdered and combined with hardening agents to create one of the most durable surfaces available. SHIRESTONE Custom Countertops are handcrafted using a patented, propietary formula and process. Back to top

Are granite countertops cheaper?
Granite is still a popular option for countertops and it varies in price, from $35 to over $200 per sq. ft.. Lower grade granite slabs can be purchased for around $40 per sq. ft., but often times the seller adds fees for plumbing cut outs and edge/profile upgrades. By the time a $35 psf granite installation is complete, it may end up costing upwards of $75 psf. SHIRESTONE is similar in price and many times lower than than the cost of most granite countertops. Unlike granite, SHIRESTONE offers one price, no seams, and virtually any color. Back to top

What about seams?
There are no seams at all. Because we form and pour Shirestone right on the jobsite, we can pour curved edges and virtually any angle without any seams. Back to top

Are the tops hard to maintain?
No. SHIRESTONE countertops are seamless, non-porous, and resistant to stain. Any non-abrasive cleaner can be used to keep the tops clean. The tops are sealed during installation and rarely require additional sealing. Back to top

Are the countertops porous?
No. The last step of the installation process is applying the sealer. Our sealer is one of the hardest and most durable sealers available anywhere, and once we apply the sealer, it's completely non-porous. Back to top

Will heat damage the tops?
SHIRESTONE tops are heat resistant, food safe and ideal for kitchen countertops in both residential and commercial applications.Back to top

Can I cut on these tops?
SHIRESTONE tops are extremely durable, but like any surface it is always advisable to use a cutting board. Back to top

Are the countertops fabricated and brought into my location?
No. SHIRESTONE countertops are custom poured on-site and fitted to your counter. The top is seamless and poured-in-place with a continuous pour. Since the installation is done on-site, there are no transport limitations (such as a granite top which cannot physically be delivered to a location). Back to top

Can the countertops go over an existing surface?
Yes. SHIRESTONE countertops can be placed on an existing surface (such as Formica) making them ideal for remodeling projects. Back to top

Are the countertops compatible with all types of sinks?
SHIRESTONE countertops can accommodate topmount sinks, undermount sinks, as well as tile edge sinks. Back to top

How long does it take to install a countertop?
SHIRESTONE countertops are usually completed within a 5-7 day period. There is no lengthy curing time for the tops and items can be safely placed on the countertop within 24 to 48 hours after the top is sealed. However, the sealer used does not reach peak durability until cured for approximately 4 days. Back to top

What colors are available?
Each SHIRESTONE countertop is a custom project. The color selection is based on the customer's preference. Another huge advantage with Shirestone is the unlimited coloring capability. Decorators and designers are excited that virtually any color can be created to go with any color scheme used for decorating. Back to top

Can you install a backsplash to accompany the countertop?
Yes! SHIRESTONE backsplash pieces can be made to accentuate your countertop. Back to top

Can I personalize my countertop?
Yes! Unlike other solid surfaces, personalized features can be incorporated into your SHIRESTONE top. Each countertop is custom designed and poured on-site so accents such as a memento, decorative tile, medallion, crest, logo, etc. can be in-laid into the countertop surface before it is sealed. Back to top

Does SHIRESTONE crack or chip and is it repairable?
SHIRESTONE is extremely durable and strong. It's an excellent performer under normal everyday use, whether residential or commercial. Cracking is very rare unless guidelines immediately following installation are not followed. If heavy objects are dropped on edges or corners, chips may occur, BUT, another beauty of SHIRESTONE is that it is truly repairable. Any cracking is covered by a warranty and chips may be easily repaired by the end user. Back to top

Can SHIRESTONE be used outdoors?
Absolutely! Outdoor kitchens, BBQ areas, outdoor tables and fire pits are all excellent options for SHIRESTONE. And because the product is sealed, it's protected from the elements of weather. Back to top

What are some other uses for SHIRESTONE?
Fireplace surrounds, mantles, backsplashes over countertops and over stoves, corbels, medallions for accent pieces, themed tiles, furniture and many other accessories and components. Back to top
